KuCoin Referral Code: What It Gets You in 2026, Fees and Restrictions

Last updated: October 27, 2026

A KuCoin referral code links your new account to an existing KuCoin user, and that link is what decides whether you receive any trading fee cashback the referrer chooses to share, plus whatever newcomer rewards KuCoin is running when you register. It does not unlock a fixed bonus on its own, and KuCoin does not publish one standard welcome amount for every country.

This explainer is for traders in India, Turkey, Southeast Asia, Latin America and the parts of Europe KuCoin still serves. We checked KuCoin’s referral page, sign-up guide, fee table and Terms of Use as of October 2026, and we cover the 2025 US guilty plea that shapes where the exchange can operate.

The key caveat: the code belongs in the sign-up form. KuCoin’s own help material describes no way to attach one to an account that already exists, so decide before you register.

Sign-up offer

Invitee gets fee cashback set by the referrer (up to the referrer's 25% to 35% rate) plus campaign-based newcomer rewards; no fixed bonus.

Paste it into Referral Code field on the sign-up screen, next to email or phone number (web and app). 18+, KYC required; not for residents of US, Singapore, mainland China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Ontario, BC, France, Netherlands, occupied Ukraine; referral programme also excludes Belgium. Verified October 27, 2026.

Key takeaways

  • The invitee benefit is a cashback share set by the referrer (up to the referrer’s own reward rate) plus KuCoin’s rotating newcomer rewards, not a fixed sum.
  • Enter the code on the sign-up screen next to your email or phone number. There is no documented way to add it later.
  • Base fees as of October 2026: 0.1% maker and taker on major spot pairs, 0.02% maker and 0.06% taker on futures, with 20% off when you pay fees in KCS.
  • Not available to residents of the US, Singapore, mainland China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, France, the Netherlands, Ontario, British Columbia and several other places.
  • KuCoin’s operator pleaded guilty in the US in January 2025 and agreed to pay more than $297 million.

What the KuCoin referral code gives you

KuCoin’s current programme is built around the referrer. According to the official KuCoin referral page, a referrer earns a share of the trading fees of the people they invite, starting at 25% from the day the invitee completes KYC until the end of that month, then adjusted monthly, with a headline ceiling of 35%. That share runs for 365 days after the invitee registers and stops once the invitee reaches VIP level 3 or above.

The new user’s side is smaller and less fixed. The referrer can set a cashback rate for invitees, up to the referrer’s current rate, and KuCoin pays it automatically. The same page also mentions “exclusive newcomer rewards”, but it does not list amounts, because those are campaign based and change over time. That is why a referral, promo or invite code for KuCoin is best read as a fee rebate channel, not a guaranteed cash bonus.

ItemWhat KuCoin states (October 2026)
Invitee cashbackSet by the referrer, up to the referrer’s own rate
Newcomer rewardsCampaign based; amounts not fixed on the referral page
Referrer fee share25% to start, up to 35%, adjusted monthly
Products that countSpot (including margin and bots), ETFs and futures; API trading excluded
Duration365 days from the invitee’s registration
Cut-offNo referral rewards once the invitee reaches VIP 3

Pages that promise a specific KuCoin bonus such as thousands of USDT for one code are usually describing a temporary task pool, where rewards depend on deposits and trading volume. Treat any figure that is not on KuCoin’s own site as unconfirmed.

How to use a KuCoin referral or invite code, step by step

KuCoin’s sign-up guide places the code on the first registration screen, on both web and app.

  1. Open the KuCoin website or app and choose Sign Up.
  2. Enter your email address or phone number.
  3. Find the Referral Code field on the same screen. If you opened an invite link, it should fill in automatically; if it does not, type the code in yourself (KuCoin notes that a link may have expired and suggests entering the code manually).
  4. Check that the code is still shown when you set your password, then finish registration.
  5. Complete identity verification (KYC). Referral rewards and cashback only start from the day KYC is done.
  6. Look in the Rewards Hub for any newcomer tasks open to your region, and read each task’s terms before depositing.

Timing matters. If you register first and look for a code afterwards, you have most likely missed the window. KuCoin’s referral rules also prohibit opening extra accounts through your own link, so creating a second account just to apply a code can cost you the rewards and the account.

Eligibility, restrictions and fine print

KuCoin’s Terms of Use require individual users to be at least 18 (or of full legal capacity locally) and list these restricted locations as of October 2026:

  • United States and its territories
  • Singapore, mainland China and Hong Kong, Malaysia
  • Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan
  • Ontario and British Columbia in Canada
  • France and the Netherlands
  • Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions of Ukraine

The referral programme adds its own exclusion: residents of Belgium, France, the Netherlands and other restricted regions cannot take part, and sub-accounts, partner accounts, institutional users and some market makers are excluded. KYC is mandatory; the US Justice Department noted that until at least July 2023 KuCoin did not require identifying information, and that changed. Expect to provide a government ID and a selfie before you can use the full platform.

In the European Economic Area, KuCoin operates a separate MiCA-licensed entity, KuCoin EU, which may have different products and promotions from the global site. More on that in the safety section below, and our guide to where MiCA goes next explains the wider rulebook.

How KuCoin works: fees, strengths and weak spots

KuCoin is a large centralised exchange known for listing many small and mid-cap tokens early, alongside futures, margin, trading bots and earn products. Its fee table groups spot pairs into classes, so what you pay depends on the coin as well as your VIP level.

Market (VIP 0)MakerTaker
Spot, Class A pairs0.1%0.1%
Spot, Class B pairs0.2%0.2%
Spot, Class C pairs0.3%0.3%
Futures0.02%0.06%

Paying spot fees in KuCoin’s own token, KCS, cuts them by 20%, and higher VIP tiers lower rates further. Spot trading bots are charged at VIP 0 rates regardless of your tier, and futures bots pay a flat 0.06%.

Good at: breadth of altcoins, built-in bots, deep futures menu. Weaker at: the Class B and C spot fees on smaller tokens, which can be two to three times the headline rate, and a regulatory record that limits where it can serve customers. Small-cap listings also cut both ways; our piece on silent delistings covers what happens when those tokens are later removed.

KuCoin vs alternatives

If KuCoin is not available where you live, or you mainly want derivatives, compare these exchanges from the same cluster. Each page lists the operator’s own referral terms and restrictions.

Is KuCoin safe and legit?

KuCoin is a real, long-running exchange, but its compliance history is the most important thing to understand before you deposit.

In January 2025, Peken Global Limited, the Seychelles company that operates KuCoin, pleaded guilty in Manhattan federal court to one count of operating an unlicensed money transmitting business. It agreed to penalties of more than $297 million, made up of $184.5 million in forfeiture and a criminal fine of about $112.9 million, and to exit the US market for at least two years. Its two co-founders entered two-year deferred prosecution agreements and each agreed to forfeit about $2.7 million. Prosecutors said KuCoin lacked effective anti-money-laundering and KYC programmes and never registered with FinCEN.

The European arm has had its own scrutiny. Austria’s Financial Market Authority granted KuCoin EU a crypto-asset service provider authorisation on 27 November 2025, then ordered a ban on new business on 19 February 2026 after key anti-money-laundering and sanctions officer roles were left unfilled. The FMA lifted that ban on 18 May 2026 once the roles were filled again.

None of this means funds on KuCoin are currently at risk, but it does mean the exchange’s footprint can change quickly when regulators act. Keep only what you are actively trading on any exchange, and read our look at how US crypto enforcement changed in 2026 for the bigger picture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a KuCoin promo code for existing users?

Not in the referral sense. Referral and invite codes only attach at registration. Existing users get promotions through the Rewards Hub, VIP fee tiers and the KCS fee discount, not through a code.

Can I add a KuCoin referral code after signup?

KuCoin’s help centre describes entering the code during sign-up only, and an older KuCoin guide says a code cannot be added manually to an account that already exists. We found no current official method to add one later, so enter it before you finish registering.

What is the difference between a KuCoin referral code, promo code and invite code?

On KuCoin they are effectively the same thing: a short code tied to an existing user, entered in the Referral Code field at sign-up. “Promo code” is often used loosely for campaign rewards, which KuCoin runs separately in its Rewards Hub.

How much fee discount does a KuCoin referral code give?

It depends on the referrer. KuCoin lets each referrer share cashback with invitees up to the referrer’s own rate, which starts at 25% of the invitee’s fees. There is no single fixed discount for every code.

Can I use KuCoin in the US or UK?

Not in the US: KuCoin’s Terms of Use list the United States as restricted, and the 2025 plea agreement requires it to stay out for at least two years. The UK is not on the Terms of Use restricted list we checked, but UK financial promotion rules apply to crypto, so check what KuCoin shows you at sign-up.

Do I need KYC to get KuCoin referral rewards?

Yes. Referral rewards and cashback begin from the day the invited user completes KYC, and the referrer must also be verified.

Risk warning: crypto assets are volatile and leveraged derivatives such as futures are high risk; you can lose all the funds you deposit. Referral rewards do not reduce that risk. Only trade where the exchange is permitted to serve you, and never trade with money you cannot afford to lose.
